Super Retail Group stores move into Invermay as $5 millon build begins

One of Australia’s largest retail groups will unveil new-look stores in Invermay in 2027.
Super Retail Group plans to move its Supercheap Auto and BCF stores, which are currently located at the bottom of St John Street, to Invermay’s big box retail hub.
The two stores will move into a purpose-built $5 million facility at 65-81 Gleadow Street, which will cover 2500 square metres across neighbouring tenancies. But a one-month demolition project is needed first.
Developer Errol Stewart said the new building would take over the site formerly used for his construction sheds and car detailing business.
“I’ve bought a new construction centre in town, a new building,’ he said.
“We’re currently moving our stuff offsite into the new construction office and buildings so that’s a decent job on its own.
“When August comes in we’ll drive 120 piles, then we’ve got a year and a half to finish it.
“We’ve got to have [it] finished at the end of next year for them to take over immediately in 2027.’ The new facility will have 64 car parking spaces, and will offer slightly more floor space than BCF and SuperCheap Auto have in their St John Street stores.
“One of the big things with modern retailers like Bunnings is you have a great big store, but you need really good carparking out the front,’ Mr Stewart said.
The impending move comes amid a flurry of activity in Invermay.
ARB Launceston is also building a new site on Gleadow Street, while Sydney Tools opened a huge new store on Invermay Road last month.
The new Tool Kit Depot building, on the Bunnings site, sold to a mainland investor last month for $8.1 million. Burgess Rawson’s Darren Beehag said the auction result was “one of the strongest results we’ve seen in the area in recent times’.
